Planning the tower design and layout are pretty much being engineered by us as the Home Brew Wind Power book we have ends before getting to the tower setup.
While at the Other Power workshop in Colorado last year we did cover the basics and we errected a small tower like ours.
The tower will be built using 4inch square tubing in 20 foot lengths.
Here are my guy cable calculations for a 46 foot tower with the upper cable connecting at the top of the two lengths of 20 foot square pipe.
Using Pythagorean Theorem to calculate cable length we know the tower height is 40 feet and the anchors are 20 feet from the base




(√(20^2+20^2) = 28.28 plus two feet of cable for the loops and ends equals 30 feet 6 inches cable length each lower leg which there are four cables
(√(20^2+40^2) = 44.72 plus two feet of cable for the loops and ends equals 46 feet 10 inches cable length each upper leg which there are four cables
√(20^2+40^2)+2=46.72 x 4=186.89 total cable needed at 1/4 inch (upper thicker guy cable)
(√(20^2+20^2)+2)=30.28 X⋅4=121.14 total cable needed at 3/16 inch (lower thinner guy cable)
