Brian’s Morning Newsletter for March 27th 2009

Good morning and welcome to a wonderful Spring snow storm Friday Let me get started with the images and movies Jackson downloaded for us off of his new camera.

Afternoon shot of the Crestone from Jack's front porch.

Brian clearing exit paths around the 100 year old Ponderosa pine tree before felling.

Jackson looking at tree before felling

I cut a large notch out of the tree hoping that it would fall toward the notch. It fell the other way, probably because a breeze caught the tree top

Limbing a big tree like this takes a lot of time. It sure does make a lot of usable firewood though.

"Deep in the Jungle," Jack told me when he saw the above image,

Then it was back to the shop to build a new set of guide rails for the Alaskan chainsaw mill

We used the new drill press to make countersunk holes in the 2X4s.

The guide rails are used to make the first cut in the log. Once this cut is made the mill follows the previous cut.
