Chap 9 – The Workers in the Vineyard
This sermon is included to illustrate what must be done to cope with obvious errors that force themselves on our attention. I suggest that we tackle them boldly. If Mathew didn’t understand the parable, say so – and build on that.
So also, we really took the scalpel to the other parables in Matthew – and to bible stories in general. It is true that some of Jesus parables are cryptic. The story of the Widow’s Mite (Mark 12:38-44) is a case in point. Did Jesus commend the poor widow for her generosity, or did he condemn the system that left her destitute?
And what about the Parable of the Talents – is it simple or is it complicated?
Every passage is a challenge.
