Good Morning
Slow going this phase. Trying to figure each and every drain when we don't have a plan. At least it isn't stressful. I mean at least I don't feel stressed about it. So far it has been pretty good to me. The work, is exercise, the planning incorporates so many salvaged items that at one point or another in my life I had given up on thinking I had building another house left in me, yet here I am: Squat down wearing cut-offs, busting out solid limestone with a one handed sledge hammer and a coal chisel. Actually making a little progress each and every day. The slow progress gives me time to think about what I'm doing. In other words this pace is perfect for me.

(July17th2012-TheShell-color) these images are in the order I shot them this morning. I love morning's light, and seem to have captured it well this morning.

/July17th2012-TheShell-dawn

(July17th2012-TheShell-dawn) Often referred to as, "The crack of dawn."  Speaking of which, Nell started a new schedule today. She will work four ten hour shifts at the hospital. She left at 6:00ish. I'm proud of her. I know it's difficult. The reward is obvious, three days off in a row. She just got literally back on her feet. I hope it isn't too soon. I do know she wants her life back, that was the whole point of the foot surgery, but that was more of a setback than we expected. Anyway, we're hopeful.

July17th2012-TheShell-sunrise

(July17th2012-TheShell-sunrise)  Sorry about the mess. My bad. I was the one that gave the dogs that cushion, which  used to be a cat bed, they tore it to shreds. Today I should be able to find the time to clean it up.

July17th2012-TheShell-plumbing

(July17th2012-TheShell-plumbing) Nell said she doesn't want the pink tub, she wants the claw foot tub. We discussed it before she left just now. I know right. I make some killer strong coffee, we were up bright eyed and bushy tailed by 5:30. Anyway, we were talking about how a wrap around shower curtain in a free standing tub is not pleasant, because it gets gross after a while. So, today I will see if I can squeeze a shower stall into TheShell.

July17th2012-TheGarden

(July17th2012-TheGarden) we got a sprinkle yesterday, not enough to stop me from working outside, but it cooled everything down. I played in our gardens for a few hours. It is amazing how much faster weeds grow than the vegetables. Still, the veggies are doing well. The lettuce has finally gotten ahead of what the chipmunks and rabbits eat. There is one strawberry in the front yard turning red, although it is deformed, it is still a milestone; our first ever homegrown strawberry!

July17th2012-TheShell

(July17th2012-TheShell) I know, but what can I do? Like I said these pics are in the order I shot them this morning. Adding a shower to the bathroom is all the more reason to push that triangular rock back all the way to the south wall, so we can put the shower stall along the wall that still has the shape of the trailer outlined in it.

I've been leaving removing that old trailer wall until the last minute, but I still need to plan what is going to happen there. This is another aspect Nell and I discussed this morning. We'll be moving the hot water heater to the other side of this wall, in order to centralize and minimize the distance hot water needs to travel to the sinks and tub. At some point I'll build a solar hot water heater for the roof to augment the propane hot water heater. As I mentioned to Nell this morning, some aspects we'll only vaguely consider, so that down the road we are making it too difficult to retrofit what we would like to add.

Right now. We'll try and think about what the house will look like in a year, but we need to think about what we absolutely need to do right now, before the cold weather returns.

Speaking of priorities, I'm torn this morning between making cookies and going for a little hike.
Decisions decisions
I better walk the dogs, burn some calories instead of, well you know, make cookies and gorge myself, hehe, yeah right.
See ya tomorrow
Sincerely,
Brian Rodgers
