Good Morning
Well, I'm encouraged. Building a no loan house at 58 years old the way I want to seems possible. We should probably go get a permit, but I really want to look at the space before submitting a design. We're beginning to get a feel for what we have.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) Thanks go out to everyone that helped this weekend. Pictures of that work are on Facebook at TheShell-Brian's & Nell's house remodel (let me know if you have trouble with this link, something seemed odd with it)
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) As my shadow seems to suggest, Brian is already getting seriously buff. My tummy muscles are getting a killer work-out. My thinking is removing dirt and rocks brings the level down to where we may not need a step up to the new room. That could be wishful thinking, but it feels right, partly because of the awesome exercise we're getting, also because as the level drops, I can see that some of the reading on earth sheltered building I did recently, may be attainable.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) The Summer sun obviously is quite nice for our new kitchen area.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) I'll move across from the eastern edge of the building. This would be the view out the kitchen windows. Imagine if you will cooking with this view in front of you.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) This is the view to the west. After we build, this new room, I'll remove some of these shrubs, for now they act as a wind break. The Sange De Christo Mountains are back there in the distance.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) View from the northwestern corner. I'm imagining a breakfast bar along a windowed wall, a place for our laptops or computers, next to the coffee pot.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) This really is one of the nicest building sites on the property.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) Our garden is doing well. I haven't got it completely closed in yet. I'll need to build a gate, but for the most part it keeps the dogs out. I'm thinking I will go to town this morning and pick up some WVO (waste vegetable oil) from the Chinese restaurant. I hope they set some aside for me, otherwise I'll need to suck some from one of their vats, something I hoped to avoid, but we need a few more gallons to make a full batch with what the Plaza Hotel gave us.
Last week's excessive driving used a lot of fuel, well most of the fuel I made, and that's just for the Jeep. Nell is driving Clara's Blazer, and it sucks gas like there is no tomorrow. We really need to be thinking about getting a little VW TDI for her to commute to work in. Rachel and I have sat in the VW Rabbit which is in the shop awaiting finish work on the cylinder head project, and I can't help but think that vehicle is too ratty for Nell to drive.
(June18th2012TheShell-Dig) Clara's dog Sandy whom we've adopted, and are trying rename him, Andy, because we've got many Sandys in our lives now.
Did I mention that I may make a trip to town? I want to buy some sunscreen for the garden. We're pushing our luck with the hail. Oh, and I also may not have mentioned that it rained. It was a lovely gentle rain, I guess on Friday, night. The exact time is escaping my memory at the moment, but it was recent. Sheesh. Right?
Sara cleaned the school bus and the semi-trailer, bless her heart. Our friend Danny is going to stay in the bus for a while. He has it set up now with a cot and a lamp. It's where we were going to setup Dave, but our luck went south and he couldn't make it. We're sad about that, but now it feels like we're getting some life happening here again with Danny and his dogs, Bo, Buddy's father, and Ramses, Buddy's brother. We've got a huge pack of dogs here now. They are behaving themselves, thank goodness.
Well, that's about it for this Monday morning I suppose. Our hearts go out to Craig and Mary Beth for the loss of Craig's mother this weekend. We love you guys, you both are in our thoughts
Sincerely,
Brian Rodgers

Digging my way to happiness, until I can’t dig no more
It does feel really good, to work, I hope I can keep it up. I can’t help at times but think the philosophy which I’m promoting of manual labor and mental heath is falling on a deaf America. It totally makes sense that guys growing up in our society want to play video games instead of work outdoors. The problem is, this is a big part of the trouble with America, maybe everywhere, now. I ask, “Who else is digging up their yard trying to make their house better?” Going green isn’t as easy as, buying green products, but I say it is nearly as simple, and the benefits are great all the way around.
Well cool beans,ANOTHER POSITIVE BMN,things are looking good ,just relax and go easy ,IT WILL HAPPEN,hell fire IT IS HAPPENING ,KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
