Mora-River-Buddy-May2012
Good Morning
After the dentist visit yesterday, Buddy and I went grocery shopping in Mora. Afterward, we stopped along the Mora River south-east of town. I wanted to let my dog get wet after waiting patiently in the Jeep.
I'm impressed with Russel's Grocery in Mora. For a little store, they have everything I needed and it costs considerably less. Most importantly to me is a store must sell Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter. The stores in Vegas don't stock it, which taints a place in my mind. Wal-Mart sells Smuckers, but believe it or not, it is cheaper in Mora. Very nice.

(Mora-River-Buddy-May2012-gulps)Buddy has a tendency to drink his way through shallow water, which is cute, imo. He didn't dive in completely, which I appreciated since the cargo area of the Jeep had groceries and a generator.

(Mora-River-Buddy-May2012-peaceful) The water was muddy. I don't know what the level is normally before the giant acequia diversion to La Cueva (Raspberry farm) but it seemed pretty full to its banks.
We saw a fisherman from the road that looked like he was pulling in a fish. What really struck me was the foliage.

(Mora-River-Tea-Rose-May2012) I named this image Tea Rose, because it looks like one we have in our garden, Nell says it isn't really a Tea Rose, just a wild rose. Above are a whole lot of them. This would be a great place to come in the Fall to pick Rose Hips for vitamin C rich tea.

(Mora-River-wild-Iris-May2012) Beautiful blue Irises all along the river

(Mora-River-Wild-Asparagus-May2012) If someone was actually Stalking the Wild Asparagus, as the title of a cult classic living off the land book suggests, the Mora River seems to be a good place to go.
Quote about the book: "Euell Gibbons was one of the few people in this country to devote a considerable part of his life to the adventure of “living off the land.” He sought out wild plants all over North America and made them into delicious dishes. His book includes recipes for vegetable and casserole dishes, breads, cakes, muffins and twenty different pies. He also shows how to make numerous jellies, jams, teas, and wines, and how to sweeten them with wild honey or homemade maple syrup."

(Pirate-Walking-Buddy) One final picture not from yesterday's little journey to Mora, but from Tusas Weekend, While visiting with Adam and Brittany at their camp, their dog Pirate, Buddy's sister, decided she was going to take him for a bit of leash training.
See ya
