Storie-lake-Feb-2012
(Storie-lake-Feb-2012) See the island? There are now three islands.
A few short years ago those landmasses were only discernible by a couple of buoys

Storie-Lake-driveover.

(Storie-Lake-driveover) Odd how the guardrail posts appear to be leaning. I had turned around after crossing the dam on my way to work.

Good Morning
Weather report for yesterday suggested it was going to be windy and cold. It was
I believe,  was colder yesterday  than any other day this Winter. It was bitter cold. I bundled up with every piece of clothing I had in the vehicle and the cold was still blowing right through me.

Nell and I are going to town to have the cast removed from her ankle. It has been literally a ball and chain for three months. We don't know quite how to feel because the apprehension is great as is the worry that the doctor may say the ankle and foot still aren't ready.

When I arrived home Sara was scurrying around the house making dinner. Because of my condition (exhaustion) I didn't get to thank you Sara, thank you.  Nell was singing "Old McDonald had a farm," with Rachel in her lap, so completely enthralled they hardly noticed I had arrived.

Life is good. This house with its wall to wall carpet is perfect for toddlers, although there are many many low cabinets which we're either emptied or tied shut.  Lately Nell and I are thinking about which features we like here so that we can create similar accommodations in our house. We're begining to see that there can be too many cabinets. We're more believers in anti-hoarding than having so much stuff.

Mud rooms here at the ranch are a priority. For us,  we love that the laundry room is away from the living space. In the case of this house the back door functions as the front door, creating a situation where guests come in through the mud room then the utility room.

I love building with rock, so expect to see a certain level of rock-work when you come in our new home. Since we don't have a portable saw mill, (yet) I'm thinking I'll design as much as possible with round wood, logs, vigas, and latillas. I have not quite worked out the flooring yet. We have a good friend with a wood flooring company in Las Vegas so expect to see some tongue and groove Douglas Fir somewhere in the house.

The concrete floor at our house has fluid coils built in, That floor should get tiled, and that room is perfect for a Rocketstove mass heater as well as a small boiler heat exchanger for the radiant floor heat.

Trying to learn the art of living gracefully

Got to go
