Nell's latest decopage.
Good Morning
I know, "Solar Gardening," duh. Unless the statement is construed as a garden full of little suns, but still, duh. Right? I woke up super early, I think because of Nell's cat, but that is a story I will bury if I'm to maintain a happy relationship. I've been reading about greenhouses. Mostly here: http://www.permies.com/t/2098/permaculture/greenhouse-suck-factor
Anyway I got the title from a book of the same name, so I'm not totally to blame for the lame name.
I went a little crazy again this morning and ordered two more items from the Internet.
"Earth sheltered houses how to build an affordable underground home… (Mother Earth News Wiser Living Series)"
Roy, Rob; Paperback; $18.45
"The Earth Sheltered Solar Greenhouse Book"
Mike Oehler; Paperback; $20.54
Plus I've also attached an interesting article on raised field agriculture The title of the paper is Raised Field Agriculture in the Lake Titicaca Basin – Putting Ancient Agriculture Back To Work
So yeah, building a simple perhaps temporary stand-alone greenhouse seems like a really fine idea. I could Brianize Mom's house with better picture windows and a greenhouse on the south side, but at this point in time, it is difficult to be inspired lacking positive feedback from the Rodgers' clan. Also Mom's house is just a modular home and is going to need constant maintenance. I am oscillating between just staying here long enough to pull the trailer away from our house and building a modest kitchen, bathroom and bedroom or brazening it out in our own place while we remodel. Nell wants back in our place as soon as she can walk.
Part of the difficulty is the lack of communication among the heirs. Nell and I already have a sizable (for us) investment in our little shanty and spending more to fix it up when my wife has no guarantee that she can live in her own house if something should happen to me, wouldn't be wise given the air of the heirs.
Do you love Nell's art?
Oh boy, the new hiking boots I ordered last week are here, both the dogs and I are chomping at our bits to get hiking
Sincerely,
Brian Rodgers
