Good Morning
I think it's raining outside.
With a temperature of 36 °F according to the weather station at Las Vegas airport, it may well be warm enough to be raining here.
I had a very good conversation with my sister Mona yesterday after my hike to the Crestone. It felt really good.
Brittany and I went for a short hike on Thursday. We walked back to the Central Meadow, talking along the way.
Conversing with my children makes me feel so much better about my life.
Saturday morning I tried out the new Converse All Stars sneakers that arrived Friday in our mailbox.
I hiked around the perimeter to our south fence trying to stay out of the snow in my new canvas shoes.
I made cookies Sunday morning using, semi-sweet chocolate, raisins, almond slivers, pecan pieces, with cinnamon and grated orange as a spice.
With cookies still warn in my tummy I put on my new boots and gathered our canine pack.
Also, I brought along our camera, shooting roughly 60 photos
We all know Brian's a sap for our wind-turbine and I'll take a picture or ten of it every chance I get.
This photo-shoot begins and ends with our wind-turbine.
- Pictured above is the Crestone. The zoom was working pretty well yesterday.
- The fork in the road leads back to my parent's house as well as up the hill to another fine home site to the west.
- The dogs were good and stayed with me the whole time, even though I know they would like nothing better than to run wild
- Another view of the Crestone and our destination
- Plenty of ice on the roads. I actually was playing on an ice sheet just ahead of this part of the road and the dogs were quite interested in my boots. I slipped and thought I had hurt my knee, but it was fine. I reluctantly moved away from the sliding game and trudged onward.
Some of you may remember this as the site of James's shanty. With the help of a lot of people we got the site cleaned.
- This is a view down into Central Meadow where our annual Tusas Camp is held. I'm looking forward to this years camp. I hope the weather permits.
- The faithful puppies.
Heeeheee, here are a couple of images apparently identical, except the picture below where I have my hand shading the lens.
- This crossing is called Montoya Pass.
- Glad I had my new boots, because the snow was fairly deep here
Buddy is in Heaven with deep snow
- La Claire Meadow
- interesting the contrast between the west facing hill and the east facing hill. Which side would you like your cabin set on?
Montoya Pass again. This is another handmade road, cut into the steep hillside with sledge hammers, rock bars, and pick & shovel work.
- I'm trying to show the steepness of this hillside, but it isn't working so well
- This view is nothing compared to being in the passenger seat traversing this road, I can tell you that.
I wonder if I was holding the camera level here? Anyway take my work for it, there is a pretty nice drop off here.
- On up the hill this is called the Saddleback. This is the road up to the Crestone
- This view, I can't tell could be looking up or it may be looking down. Camera perspectives are funny.
Here I am about a quarter of the way up the Crestone
- This is the view back down the Crestone toward Crestone Canyon which we skirted on this journey.
- Another photo which I can't say if it is looking up or down, or perhaps even laterally across the Crestone.
- This is a view straight up the Crestone on the south side. A challenging hike to say the least. Having not done a lot of hiking while caring for Nell I had to break two times on this ascent. Not bad for an old guy though.
Alrighty this is just twenty five images of the 60 I shot.
I need to get ready for work, so I'm hoping you tune in tomorrow for the rest of the trek. I've got fantastic photos of our Solar powered WiFi relay station and several great shot of Hermits Peak
