BMN Cake or Death?

Brian's Morning Newsletter

Friday, April 22 2011

Good Morning
Everyone was so sweet yesterday with soothing stories of their own loss of their faithful companions. It really helped.   I'm still not all better, but I am getting better, and those notes and conversations made us feel much much better, thank you thank you, thank you all.  Last night I waited at Jack's with Austin and Amelia  until Nell drove up the hill so I wouldn't need to be home alone in the empty house. Nevertheless we're both still sobbing with every little reminder.

Death is part of life unfortunately. But god dammit let up on us for a minute at least until we catch our breath.

We are thinking about a new dog, right away, in the hope that, first, our mean old cats won't make me twist their evil little heads off because, well they are mean little bastards, and attack everything. Second that whatever dog we get takes to us and we take to it at least to a degree of acceptance. No new pet will replace our best buddy of 14 years.

We've been considering some kind of heard dog like the Australian shepherd

Crazy as I know this sounds I also want sheep for the ranch, hence the heard dog. Reality set in over time, what with us having been considering Cuggee's inevitable demise for some time. Herd dogs have an extreme instinct to herd. If there is no flock to herd, these dogs go a little crazy. We see the Blue Tick Healer's as well as these Shepherds, waiting beside the road for cars to chase, not good.

So we're thinking more than one dog may be in our future. One to sooth our terrible feeling of loss, immediately. A house dog from the pound. It really depends on what we see there. When I went a few weeks ago I saw a Labrador, maybe three or four months old, but unlike all the other dogs and puppies, the black dog growled at me. Too many of the other doggies wanted us, well me, Nell doesn't believe she'll survive a trip to the pound and will probably leave picking a puppy to me.

We want a medium to large dog, like a German Shepard, Springer Spaniel, and I still love Rottweilers.

I know, I know, like it is possible to pick from these cutest little guys, right?

In case you are wondering where the phase "Cake or Death?" came from, it is part of an old Eddie Izzard skit. Click the image to view the youtube video.

Dear Brian and Nell:  So good to hear your words and the kidding about Cats.  Poor Tuts!!!  I wanted to go right after Bo passed but a voice inside me said I needed to hold on  a little.  I did get on a web site and put in what I wanted it was a site for puppies that are resuced.  Some of those folks are not straight and I think they are puppy mills.  I think two is better then one.  I really wished we had gotten Chances Sister but we just do not have the room nor space.  You will find the one that fits all they kind of pick you that is what happend when I found the Chance Man.   I must close DTW is pacing as we need to get to the hardware store to finish the windows.  We love ya and the crying is good.  I found Bo's old collar the other day and I balled like a baby.  I still miss him and I am blessed that I had those years of loving him and him loving and protecting me.

Hi Danny, Amelia mentioned that Bo was going to be a daddy. Don’t hold me to it but she and Aus seem real interested. Also I mentioned to Nell about Bo, so yeah come Memorial day you probably ought to bring a couple pups.
Speaking of Tusas, as of this week the Forest Service says no camp fires, which will seriously cramp our camp, dance for rain in northern New Mexico people

I'm thinking you pretty much closed the forum when you stopped linking it on the newsletter. It's too bad people didn't learn to use it. It is such a more versatile platform than a comments section. Of course people like to get the BMN in their inbox too. Bookmarking a website is just so tedious…I thought the conversion from the google list to a forum would have gone smoother. I guess hitting reply is just to easy.  JD

Nobody has posted there in months, it is virtually dead. It just so happened that in an attempt to fix the HTML in my signature file I pulled up an old sig.html file and it had that line about the forum. Yes people want to be able to post from phones as well as email and so I am constantly on the look out for WordPress plugins which allow this
