BMN Dad’s Obituary

HENRY SEAY RODGERS

BORN JULY, 29 1918

In Encino, New Mexico

Died FEBRUARY, 28 2011

On his beloved Ranch in Las Tusas, New Mexico

Henry was the son of Henry Clay and Clara Seay Rodgers, brother to Luther B., Edward L, and Eugene C., father to Jill Annette who have all predeceased him. He leaves his wife Clara Lucetta, his son Jackson Russell, his daughter Mona Jeanne and her husband Mike Johnson, and his son Brian Edward and his wife Nell, and his sister Jenny Bamert. He also leaves his grandchildren Brady, Macie and her husband Mike, Austin, Jona and his wife Sara, Travis and Brittany and his great grandchildren Sean and Rachel. He also leaves his many wonderful nieces and nephews, all to mourn the passing of this wonderful man.

Henry graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1940, with a BS in Chemistry and taught Chemistry for a year in Albuquerque. He then moved to Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania where he met his loving wife of 67 years, Clara Lucetta Ripka, and worked as a quality control chemist for White Rock Quarries. He and Clara moved to New Jersey in 1945 where he worked for Allied Chemical Corporation for 25 years. There, he and Clara raised their four children, Jackson Russell, Jill Annette (deceased in 1983), Mona Jeanne and Brian Edward.

After retiring as a Senior Scientist, Henry and Clara returned to his home state of New Mexico in 1970, purchasing a 250 acre ranch in Las Tusas. He always strived to be a good ranch manager with his family as part of his team. He also was an avid conservationist and was always willing to share his ideas on forest management with anyone that would listen. Some of his happiest times were the family and extended family gatherings that were held at the ranch. Family has always been of great importance to Henry.

In his always present quest for knowledge and understanding, Henry was called to the ministry. Henry and Clara moved back to Pennsylvania, where he enrolled and graduated with his Masters of Divinity, from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1980 at the age of 59. After ordination, he became a Presbyterian minister of three churches in New Mexico following in the footsteps of his Grandfather Hamilton Rodgers who was a Methodist circuit rider. Henry was preaching up until his 92nd year in 2010.

Henry understood the saying among the ministry, “We are not called to be successful; we are called to be faithful.” Henry felt he did the best he could with what he had. We believe he is being received as a good and faithful servant.

We understand that his faith allowed him to pass into the next world at peace, where he will watch over us and visit with those that have gone before him. He has reached “the other shore”. He will be missed because he has impacted so many.

HSR Enjoying the forest
Henry spent much of his time working and enjoying the forest.

the above image is from one of dad's pages called Peace in the Forest reposted on my site, this is a good read, and it would make Henry very happy if you did.

Another interesting read is Handmade Roads
Henry on another hand made road

Henry on another hand made road, his spirituality and science were intricately connected. Every stone was resized and carefully placed.

Henry with another small slash burn

Henry was active in forest management right up until the end.

Henry always working on fences

Henry, always working on fences, and they always needed more work.

Well that's about it for this morning, I'm sure there are hundreds of images of Henry working on this land, becasue that's what he dedicated his life to.
